It takes a while to write about an evening that had "Old Monk" on the house accompanied with an extreme dosage of wonderful music. Even more so when you throw in the company of those who have made the music that not only gets your head into motion, but touches your soul too. The combination being, undoubtedly deadly, the hangover takes a long time to wear off.
I am, of course, talking about the SPLIT's COUNTING PERFUME pre-launch party on the 25th of January 2012 at B69(Andheri, Mumbai). The party, which had an exclusive guest list, included a few lucky fans and a whole bunch of familiar faces on the music front who had the privilege to listen to COUNTING PERFUME before its launch. The album art, designed by Kirtana Krishnan, was also to be revealed the same night.
The music commenced and the very intriguing artwork provided an excellent backdrop as it added to the ambiance. COUNTING PERFUME is superlative! Equipped with thirteen songs that have the power to unleash a tornado of emotions within you, it is undoubtedly one of the most awaited albums of the year. The artwork gets you thinking; So do the songs.
Tracklist: Counting Perfume

The album blew me away. Having heard all of the thirteen songs, it struck me how beautifully SPLIT can blend the music with the lyrics. The album wonderfully encompasses the multiple facets and sounds that the bands possesses. The songs in their previously released E.P, P IS FOR PIG are sounding, if possible, even better; and the additions too. What I wanted to know, is if MY HOUSE was a part of the thirteen songs. It has been one of my preferred songs over these years. And yes, it is on the album! A song that has absorbed the perceptions of the existing SPLIT members, but undoubtedly reserved those of the ones who composed it. You’ll know what I am saying when you hear it yourself. MY HOUSE is however, not the only surprise in the album. There are a few more in store.
COUNTING PERFUME is not only going to reward SPLIT with the pedestal they rightfully deserve, but it is, according to me, going to carry other bands to success alongside it. For the band, its about the Music. Be it theirs, or of another fellow musician. They know how to appreciate and diffuse it. As Aviv Pereira has said so often, “Music is bigger than all of us” and so it has been for SPLIT. And COUNTING PERFUME is precisely about that. Its about music; in its primal, raw form.
