Purple Fusion, a band from Nagaland which experiments with folk music with essence of blues, funk, jazz, reggae and rock was officially formed on 1st August 2012. Band members are Lamtsala Sangtam on lead Vocals, Rhonbe on Guitars ,Temsu Kichu on Drums/ vocals, Mhathung Odyuo on bass/ vocals.
Purple Fusion is delving in the rich folk music and culture of the different tribes and also fusing it with popular western music. The band aims in taking the culture and folk tunes of North-East India globally. Just into the fifth month Purple Fusion has had the opportunity to perform at various places and even done some shows in collaboration with some big names in music like John W Schlitt of petra grammy award winner, Rahul Ram of Indian Ocean and Rewben Mashangva.
The band has released their first official music video called "Tring Tring – Marks of War" on 6th January 2013 which they say that it's a New Year's gift to there fans and well wishers who always loved and believed in them. The song and the video is based on a Naga folklore of a brave Warrior who comes back home from a successful head hunting expedition. It also show’s the transition from the old ways of headhunting to the more modern and tolerable ways of life of the Naga’s and how the head hunting culture has stopped after the acceptance of Christianity.
The video has been shot in three locations namely, Phulongre, which is village in the interiors of Nagaland about 45 minutes from Kiphire town. Phulongre village is very famous for it's head hunting expeditions in the olden days. There are records that the warriors of the village had taken 25 heads up till 1959. The video was also shot in the outskirts of Dimapur in a farm house where a young warriors is being depicted of making a transition from the village life the modern city life style. Lastly the video was shot in a studio in Kohima the capital of Nagaland. This video is more of like a short movie on the history of Naga's.
The video was directed and edited by Timothy Gomez who is a film maker from Hawaii - USA, produced by Purple Artist and being sponsored by Royal Tripura Foundation, Department of Tourism-Nagaland, Mr. Among Imkong and Mr. Lima Imsong.
