Initially a group which started out as an enthusiasm of a few vividly energized people having an aficionado for some truly malodorous metal, the name Putrid Ascendancy came into life in the year 2011.  As the name suggests, it upholds the torch of the extreme underground culture in the Eastern Region of India. Their meanest endeavor to provide, not only to their home grounds, but also to the whole India and abroad, the essence of true extreme metal. They have been active all over the social networks and their webzine with innovative interviews and their occasional copies of the various sects of extreme metal essential in download-able format. Their music emblazons with dogmas of various gruesome and somber aspects of life and the culture alike. They came up with Ritual Ascension Fest, I in the year of 2012, one of the finest and one-of-a-kind festival, ever to be organized in Calcutta with some bands set out with a mission to spread the metal adored by the people during 70’s and alike. Shaken by the huge success of their preliminary travail, many people were enthralled to be a part of this movement. Amused by the growing eagerness towards the raw metal militia, they decided to come up with Ritual Ascension Fest, II which was held in January 2014, which was about to bring Bangladesh giants, Nafarmaan, however due to some unpleasant situation, the Bangla warriors were unable to make it, but the Bengal warriors threw their might all over the audience. Possessed by the successes of their past ventures, Putrid Ascendancy wishes to present yet another nasty and disheveling festival, to proclaim their efficacy, valor and domination as true soldiers in November, 2014.

ORDER OF HERETICAL TRIDENT FESTIVAL is conceptualized to uphold and ignite the black flame of underground extreme metal sensibility, aesthetics and essence in most uncompromising and unapologetic way. Conspired by the cult of Putrid Ascendancy, Kolkata, the concept of this festival is to provoke and create an impulse for extreme music and support the bands with original music that comes with a point of view and misanthropic visions. Kolkata being one of the current epicenters for quality heavy metal culture, seems like the one of the best places to organize ORDER OF HERETICAL TRIDENT FEST! The first edition will have local as well invaders to conjure up a vicious line up! More information on line up, date and venue will be unveiled soon.

New Post-Rock Band From Ahmedbad - As We Keep Searching

Post rock is a relatively unexplored territory in India yet. Being largely instrumental with minimal to no vocals, it is easy to sound pleasant with post rock but tough to sustain it for some minutes and not become monotonous. One such band is Ahmedabad based As We Keep Searching, a three member outfit formed in 2013. With influences such as God is an Astronaut, Karnivool, Tool and Mutemath, the music is largely post rock. As for the theme, the band keeps it open and tries to express the emotions and life experiences of the band members, are a bunch of old friends.

Their debut single that was released in early December, ‘The Tattva’, is a mix of delicate and riffed guitar portions and spaced out vocals in Hindi. The instrumentation is intense, and the track slightly lengthy, but has enough diverse parts to keep the ears interested. The band was also quick to come out with an experimental music video in the next two weeks, which only betters the experience of an ambient track.

It’s a different sound coming from Gujarat, and members of AWKS feel 2014 is going to be an important year for this experiment of theirs. As of now, we can await the release of their second single ‘Aakorxon’ on Jan. 10th and follow the guys here:

10 Years Of Mindstreet Tour

Baiju Dharmajan Mindstreet Tour

Carnatic raagas coalesced seamlessly with elements of progressive rock; Baiju Dharmajan as his fans fondly call him - The God of Small Strings, needs no introduction. Baiju carved a special place in the heart of every progressive rock fanatic by his unique and exotic musicianship with his ex-band Motherjane and continues to do so with his new project The Baiju Dharmajan Syndicate.

In 2003, Motherjane released Mindstreet that redefined its music with eclectic songwriting that contained Carnatic roots along with traditional rock. It was featured on GIR compilation and rode wild waves because of the stellar musicianship it demonstrated. To celebrate this, Baiju Dharmajan has recently announced 10 Years of Mindstreet Tour as a part of The Great Indian Guitar Trip and will play across Hard Rock Cafes in Mumbai, Pune and Hyderabad.

Tour Schedule:

14th November – Hard Rock Cafe, Worli, Mumbai

21st November – Hard Rock Cafe, Pune

5th December – Hard Rock Cafe, Hyderabad

In addition, he will also be releasing his autobiography titled ‘Motherjane: Baiju Dharmajan Diaries.’ The books has been narrated to Arun S Kumar and edited by Purushotham Kaushik and Ashima Popli. In this 30 page eBook, he speaks about how the band was formed when after meeting the band members at a bachelor’s party, songwriting process with the band, departure from the band and advice to parents and aspiring musicians.

Excerpt from the chapter Maktub:

As musicians, all of us had matured considerably. Suraj’s song writing skills at that time were quite magnificent and composing Maktub with him was a thoroughly enjoyable experience. We spent numerous sessions together discussing the feelings the tracks should embody. We spent hours unravelling the depths of a song’s subject matter and tried to marry the music to the lyrics. The vibes I shared with Suraj were great. Even though we had some tension brewing between us, once the music began to flow everything else became irrelevant. The issues we had just faded out and it felt as if nothing had happened at all.

With the release of eBook, Baiju will be giving a free track called ‘Karna’, by The Baiju Dharmajan Syndicate.

Register for Motherjane: Baiju Dharmajan Diaries.
